Free Palestine rally at RMIT

Cross-campus group Students for Palestine held a “Free Palestine” protest last month.
The protest, held outside the State Library, attracted more than 180 people.
Protestors chanted “Free, free Palestine” and “Palestine will be free, from the river to the sea”.
Four policemen patrolled the event, with no arrests made.
The protest commemorated the 61st anniversary of ‘Al Nakbah’- Arabic for ‘the catastrophe’- when more than 750,000 Palestinians were expelled from their homeland to create the state of Israel. Students for Palestine member Damien Ridgwell said he thought the rally was a success.
“There was quite an enthusiastic atmosphere and it was a significantly sized protest, especially because it has been some time since the war in Israel and this has been the first rally since then in the city,” he said.
Mr Ridgwell also said more rallies could be planned with the aim of ending the apartheid in Israel.
